Biography

Coach DeJuan Payne is a native of Stone Mountain, GA. He is an 11-year championship coaching veteran having coached on both the high school and collegiate level. Most recently, as the Defensive Coordinator at Benjamin Banneker High School. Coach Payne led a regional championship defense that ranked in the top 10 in the AAAAA classification, giving up less than 11 points per game during his last two seasons. He also served in a similar capacity at Americus-Sumter County High School and as the Special Teams Coordinator/Linebackers Coach at Point University in 2013 and 2014. Preceding Point University, he spent 2 years as the Assistant Special Teams Coordinator/Wide Receivers Coach and Assistant Intramural Director at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, MA. Before working at WPI, Payne accepted the John Phillips Fellowship at Phillips Exeter Academy in 2009 where he won his 1st NEPSAC Class A Championship. Coach Payne started his career as an assistant football coach at his alma mater “THE” Stephenson High School in 2008. He has coached football, wrestling and track and field throughout his coaching career. Coach Payne is a graduate of Morehouse College where he earned All-SIAC accolades in 2007-08 as a Linebacker. He holds a Master’s Degree in Recreation and Sports Science from Ohio University and a Georgia Educator Certification from Albany State University. Coach Payne is a member of The American Football Coaches Association, The Minority Coaches Association of Georgia, and a Level 1 USA Weightlifting Certified Coach. He is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
